KAREN STROBEL has worked for the City Archive of Mannheim since 2003. She is particularly interested in helping individuals with research, the history of Mannheim, especially after 1880, and research in photography, film and book projects.

Karen was born in 1969 and grew up in Mannheim. She studied English literature, prehistory and archaeology at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and received her M.A. She remembers visiting a kindergarten located in a house built in the 19th century. "I loved to be in the cellar working with earthenware material or the attic . . . I always felt dedicated to this old house and its whispers from the past."

Karen lists her hobbies as "walking and reading, poetry, cats, Ireland and a lot more." She is, in addition, an avid fan of Star Trek and has attended Star Trek conventions, including Sea Trek, a cruise/convention aboard a ship going from Miami to the Bahamas.
